For better understanding...

Parabens: Parabens are preservatives currently used in cosmetics. They are allergens (cutaneous reactions), but with a relatively low allergenic potential. There is much debate about parabens as preservatives, although there is no evidence that they might be carcinogenic for humans.

Phthalates: A large group of chemical compounds used in the production of plastics, household articles, packages, cosmetics and plant pesticides.

Mineral oils: A mixture of refined liquid hydrocarbons derived from petroleum.

Allergen: A substance capable of triggering an allergic reaction in a previously sensitized subject. Allergens exist in large numbers and varieties, and affect a large population.  Glacial spring water: comes from the glacier at Les Diablerets in the Swiss pre-Alps. This water first froze several thousand years ago, before the harmful effects of human pollution were felt in the world's waters; it is therefore intrinsically pure.

Biotechnology: Biotechnologies are the result of the fusion of the science of living organisms – biology – with a range of new techniques developed from other disciplines, such as microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics…

Cosmeceuticals: Products that possess dermatological and pharmaceutical properties that refresh the skin. Can act as a peeling, a dermabrasion, exfoliate the skin, speed up cellular renewal, repair damage from sunburn and correct uneven pigmentation. Other vitamin C based products reduce fine lines and repair skin damaged by the sun.

Collagen: Fibrous glycoprotein whose role can be compared to an armature. It is secreted by fibroblasts and assembled outside the cells, in the extracellular matrix. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the organism, and is found in all tissues. Tissues that contain collagen are more resistant, and have comparatively more elasticity than those without it.

Free radicals: Chemical elements with very strong reactivity capable of attacking the DNA proteins and trigger the oxidation of the membranes of our cells. Free radicals are one of the causes of skin aging.

Appropriate sun protection: Depends on skin type and UV index. Apply a product with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15, at repeated intervals.

UV Sun Intensity Protection
1 to 2 Weak No protection necessary
3 to 5 Medium Protection necessary : hat, t-shirt, sun glasses, sun cream.
6 to 7 High Protection necessary : hat, t-shirt, sun glasses, sun cream.
8 to 10 Very High Additional protection necessary : avoid being outdoors if possible.
11 Extreme Additional protection necessary : avoid being outdoors if possible.

Selective photothermolysis: A process of epilation performed by a beam of light emitted by the laser apparatus directed towards the skin, by targeting a group of hair follicles. The light emitted by the laser has a specific wavelength, adapted to the color of the intended target area. In epilation, these are normally hair follicles that are darker than the skin. These are ‘heated – burnt’ by the light in order to obtain their destruction. The power of the beam is sufficient to destroy the hair, but insufficient to damage the skin and the surrounding tissue.
